Fena Gitu is a 25 year old singer, songwriter and producer from Nairobi, Kenya, best known for her singles Brikicho (with Electrique DJs and Jaaz), Jabulani, African King among others.

Music Career

Fena developed her passion for music at a tender age. In 2008, she won the “Fete de la Musique” singing competition at Alliance Francaise Nairobi, marking the beginning of a bright music career. Fena’s soulful sounds include hit singles such as “Fenamenal Woman”, her chart-topping singles “Africa Massive” and “Dutch” (featuring Kagwe Mungai and Toshi), and is now riding high on her new hit single with Electrique DJs, “Brikicho”.

She is currently recording her debut album produced by Jaaz Odongo. Fena describes her music as “Urban Soul”, fusing a variety of musical genres, from neo-soul to afro-soul, reggae, hip-hop and afro-house, all to create her unique, urban “Fenamenal” sound.

In September 2013 Fena Gitu partcipated in a special recording phase in Nairobi together with Rob Smith, Okmalumkoolkat and more musicians from Kenya. In addition, Fena took part in another extra Nairobi phase in March 2014 with Afrologic (Lagos), DJ Satelite (Luanda), Tshepang Ramoba (Johannesburg) and fellow Kenyan musicians like Just A Band, Provoke, Wangechi and more.

She has collaborated with Kagwe Mungai, Karun, Electrique DJs, Wangechi, HHP, and Olamide to be released soon. Her recent success earned her a spot on the second season of the hottest music show in Africa “Coke Studio Africa”. Fena’s effortless fusion of genres and lyrical wit create her signature Fenamenal sound, which she describes as Urban Soul.

Performances

She has since shared the stage with highly acclaimed musicians such as Kenyan multi-award winning SautiSol, Nameless, Wyre, Octopizzo, Muthonit the Drummer Queen among many others; South African HipHop heavyweight HHP, TheDrumboss Heavy K, afro-beat kings Uhuru, and multi-award winning Bucie; Nigeria’s Wizkid, Iceprince, Davido and Olamide; and most recently performed in a heart-warming spectacle with the hailed Princess of African music Yvonne Chaka Chaka at the Koroga Festival.

She has also shared the stage with American Neo Soul sensation Vivian Green. With such an impressive performance C.V, Fena’s soulful yet electrifying performances qualify her as one of Kenya’s finest and most unique acts in recent times.
