Joshua Irungu Biography
Joshua Irungu was born on 2nd February 1970 and went on to join Maseno School before graduating with a Bachelor’s degree in Resource Management and a Masters degree in Agriculture and Rural Development. Between 1999 and 2002 he was Program Coordinator for SARDEP in Laikipia, a task that saw him co-ordinating and managing the semi-arid lands program in the area. In total he has over 15 years experience in Community Development programmes in Laikipia County. On his agenda is the provision of sufficient water through cost-sharing in construction of cement water tanks, setting up a revolving fund that will facilitate the maintenance of fences in wildlife prone areas and compensate victims of human–wildlife conflict, development of the areas surrounding conservancies and the initiation of youth based development programmes. In Kenya’s 2013 general election, Joshua vied in the gubernatorial elections, winning as Governor of Laikipia County, alongside Deputy Governor Josphat Gitonga Kabugi. He was elected on a TNA party ticket.
Joshua Irungu Career
Up until the year 2000, Joshua Irungu was a civil servant in Kenya’s Ministry of Agriculture. He was in charge of Agriculture and Livestock Development officers in charge of Laikipia West and Nyahururu divisions of what was then Laikipia District. He resigned from government and joined USAID, for whom he was in charge of the International Small Group and Tree planting programme(ISGTPP).
