K-Letta Biography
K-Letta was born in the 80s as an African baby born in the U.K to an African lady, little did he know that years later through music he would find his goal in life. That being, to inspire others to aspire! He held steadfast onto this mantra upon relocating to Kenya his homeland as a child, and he continues to do so until today.
Through a steely focus, desire and dedication to his craft, K-Letta aka Mr. K Dash has grown from strength to strength to become the well rounded artist and songwriter he is today. This talent in songwriting has seen him write for several projects both local and international. As an artist he shows a diversity rarely seen in the music world, easily weaving between genres while still being able to produce enjoyable music with a familial sound. The end product is something he likes to call ‘commercially credible.’ Through the apt use of literary devices and clever word play he endeavours to continually push the creative envelope.
His debut free mixtape was released in 2006 and was well received, prompting the 2007 release of his next mixtape. This opened even more ears and won him new fans. It sold out and resulted in performances in Africa, the US and various venues around the UK. The video for the song ‘Baadaye’ has topped various charts and featured prominently in various East African ones.
With the recent success of the hit singles ‘Get Low’ and the follow up ‘Kata’, 2012 will see the release of his debut album ‘From Nairobi To You’ on his independent label Origarmi Boy Ltd. K-Letta now looks to take his career to the next level both as an artist and entrepreneur and give the world a glimpse into his world. Recently, he has accomplished the formidable feat of being named Brand Ambassador of the Bankika brand of one of the largest financial institutions in the region, Kenya Commercial Bank. It is worthy to note that thus far all these achievements have been accomplished independently, a pointer to his drive, desire and tireless work ethic.
From here going forward, the aim is to show that an East African artist is capable of producing music that is at par quality wise with global standards, while maintaining his own unique style and flavour. Be on the lookout for The Mr. K Dash EP a precursor to the album, as well as forays into the wider entertainment world with his company Origarmi Boy Ltd.
