James Maina Ng’ang’a Biography

James Maina Ng’ang’a  who heads Neno Evangelism Centre is not your regular kind of pastor. He is a rock star kind of evangelist with a wide following and reputed for performing ‘miracles.’

James Maina Ng’ang’a  story is one of rags to riches. His lavish lifestyle as reported by Sunday Nation of January 21, 2007, belies a poverty-stricken childhood and several jail terms for theft and other misdemeanors. It is not clear, however, when he was in jail. He formed Neno Evangelism in 1992. In 2007, his manager, William Mburu, estimated that the church was worth Sh100 million. The church is sandwiched between two petrol stations along Haile Selassie Avenue. In 2012, a local radio station reported that a drunk Ng’ang’a got into a fight with his wife and security guard. His wife alleges in the court papers that he lives in Karen and owns a fleet of cars.

James Maina Ng’ang’a Family, Wife and Children

Ng’ang’a married Murugi after his first wife, with whom he had four children, passed on. The two tied the knot in a colourful ceremony at the Windsor Golf Club in 2012.The ceremony featured a full police escort, complete with outriders as part of his convoy. He had booked several kikuyu artists and Vitimbi crew. The wedding was attended by among others, the then Vice President Kalonzo Musyoka.

But things were not well in his marital paradise. His estranged wife has decided to wash the family’s dirty linen in court, dismissing the man of cloth as an abusive and adulterous drunk. In a child support case filed on September 2 last year at the Milimani Children’s Court in Nairobi, Loise Murugi Maina accuses the flamboyant pastor of assaulting her physically and not providing for their child.

Murugi, who was seeking Sh535,000 monthly in child upkeep for their one-year-old daughter, claims she has no job to support herself and their daughter. She describes James Maina Ng’ang’a  as a man of means renowned for his lavish lifestyle and who would not have any problem coming up with the amount she is seeking.Nga’ng’a on the other hand accuses Murugi of deserting their matrimonial home without notice and denying him access to his daughter whom he fears will not be brought up “with proper moral values.”

The two were married on June 30, 2012. Murugi describes how life changed from paradise to hell:“In church, She took the position of an apostle’s wife, helping him with the service and managing church affairs. It is at this time that she started to experience a change in his attitude towards her.She claims that she was surprised when she found out who the real James Maina Ng’ang’a was.

James Maina Ng’ang’a was a drunkard and very abusive towards her, to the extent of insulting my parents. She also later learnt that he was adulterous, sleeping with staff and even bringing married women to our matrimonial bed,” Murugi claims in the court documents.

She took issue with the pastor’s alleged behaviour of texting and calling other women while in the house, which she claims caused her emotional pain. In addition, she alleges that whenever she confronted Ng’ang’a with her concerns, he would become very hostile and occasionally threaten her. She claims that the pastor would later try to calm her by apologising and blaming his behaviour and attitude on alcohol and the devil.

According to Murugi, the marriage nosedived when they were traveling to China for her sister’s graduation .James Maina Ng’ang’a allegedly started insulting her on the plane, and later on abandoned her and her mother at the airport. She alleges that Ng’ang’a later sent her a message bragging he had done shopping worth Sh3 million and that he did not care about the graduation. Five days after the graduation, Ng’ang’a reportedly called her to apologise for the ill treatment towards.
Murugi claims that one day, she found him drinking and they disagreed, resulting in a brawl.

She said that after the incident, she received a text message threatening her not to go back home.He  changed the door locks to deny me access into the house. She was forced to go back with their child to her mother’s house. Murugi adds that when they later met over the incident, Ng’ang’a reportedly got drunk and beat her. She claims that she left the house on August 3 and drove off with her then six months old daughter’s clothes in the family car. She then  surrendered the car to police officers who had been sent by Ng’ang’a to collect it.

But Murugi in her papers is of the view that James Maina Ng’ang’a is not competent to be granted custody. He is an abusive man, a drunkard and a man who lacks good moral grounding as he has no respect for any one, not even my own mother. He mistreats his children and even brings women to his house. This has resulted in his children being stressed and adopting a ‘don’t-care’ attitude that she would not wish for my child.

James Maina Ng’ang’a Scandal

James Maina Ng’ang’a was on, July 26, involved in an accident on Nairobi-Nakuru highway that killed one and left another person in critical condition.

The pastor of the Neno Evangelism Centre in Nairobi’s Haile Selassie Avenue was said to have been driving his Range Rover on the wrong side of the road when the vehicle collided with another that had two passengers, a couple.

The pastor was recently in court after his wife filed a case claiming that she had “been physically abused, the man took alcohol and that he did not take care of his child.”

One day, she went on a class trip for a week and I missed her so much that it finally dawned on me that this was the person I wanted to spend the rest of my life with!’ They were both interns at the Nairobi Chapel for a year after their studies and were engaged soon after that.

Both Muriithi and Carol studied theology at Fuller Theological Seminary in the US after which Pst. They are passionate about helping couples strengthen their marriages and are regularly invited by different churches to speak at marriage enrichment retreats. ‘As a young couple, God graciously equipped us with knowledge and wisdom that saved our marriage. We made a commitment back then to bless other couples in the same way that we had been blessed’.

The church in Africa is the fastest growing in the world today. By God’s grace, he wanted to be counted as on of those who shaped its development and enabled it to achieve its God given destiny.’

Musa Juma was born on December 6, 1970 in Kenya, Nyanza Province, Siaya District, Uranga Division, Nyadorera Location on 6th Dec 1975. He was a rumba and Benga musician from Kenya. He was the bandleader, guitarist and composer for Orchestra Limpopo International. Most of his music were sung in Dholuo language.

Background

Juma grew up in Homa Bay District where he also attended school, both primary and secondary level.

He was born to a poor family, he says. The son of a policeman, Musa’s childhood was one characterized by struggle and ridicule by the society. “My father had three wives and I was born of the second wife. We were 18 children “. Their Father had to cater for them with his meager income.

“A policeman’s salary during the 1970s and 1980s was around sh,2800”, he says. As expected, everything was a challenge, including the children’s education…. Especially after my father retired in 1984. “We mostly depended on farming and whenever the rains falls spelled doom for us”. The compound had houses whose condition reflected the family’s poverty. When it rained, we would gather at one corner of the house and stand still, as most of the roof leaked.

“There was time I was so overwhelmed that I went down on my knees and literally asked God why us. “I have walked in tatters and literally tasted poverty in every sense of the word,” says Musa with a sigh.Juma’s love for music began while still at Homa Bay School, where he was a student. “My first instruments were tins,” he recalls. Shortly after completing my education, i decided to become a musician. “The society laughed because musicians were not highly regarded”, he says. Determined, i made my first guitar from a fine wood. To make matters worse, after the death of my father and elder brother, the mantle of the family rested upon my shoulders hence many saw my venture into music as a curse of sorts.

They saw our family as cursed, with no way out of poverty”, he recalls. In 1990, Musa, together with his Younger brother Tony Omondi (also a musician, composer and vocalist), launched Limpopo International. They recorded their first album in 1992, but could not get airplay on the local radio stations for more than 15 years.
today a strict disciplinarian, Musa has regained some glory for his family. The homestead that was once shunned has become the pride of many.

Music Career

Musa Juma started out on the road of music aged 10 at the inspiration of Franco Luambo Makiadi the Congo legend. Despite his tender age, he started playing guitar, his favorite pastime, with the belief that he would one day be a musician.

Upon completing high school in 1990, he ventured in to the business field, dealing in general merchandise, this was temporary. He later realized this was not his field and decided to join Solar Africa band to do what he knew best; play music. He was the lead guitarist-singer-cum-composer until 1992 when he broke up to form Orchestra Limpopo International band.

Some of most popular songs by Musa Juma were “Hera Mudho”, “Ufisadi”, “Mercelina”, and “Freddy”. He released eight albums, the last of them being titled Lake Victoria.

He came to the end of himself in 2008 — he had so many problems and he just couldn’t take it anymore. He decided to give his life to Christ.

He joined the wrong company while studying in the UK and that is how he started going to strip clubs and drinking. After completing his studies, he came back home and continued with my evil ways. But he thank God he  got saved in the nick of time.

One day, when he was driving his car and he saw something like a vision where God was speaking to him. “It was scary. It felt like God was telling me to change my ways and turn to Him.” He was so scared and confused he went to a pastor on Ngong’ Road and explained to him what happened. He led him to Christ. It was not easy changing his old ways as he still had a bit of the old man trying to come forth again. Though he is a changed man, now one of the greatest challenges he has  faced is that some people still look at him with the eyes of the past. It is, especially difficult because I am a public figure. He keep his eyes on God.

Robert Burale Education

He went to Musa Gitau Primary School and later Bungoma High School, where my acting talent was nurtured. He then went to the UK for my undergraduate studies at De Mont Forte University, where he studied business and marketing.

Robert Burale Divorce

Robert Burale, learnt from his past marriage. “My marriage broke down after exactly one year and two days,” he says. “I felt like a failure, a worthless man. Looking back today, there are things I could have done better.”

Robert shares that he should have communicated with his spouse better and spent more quality time with her. And in retrospect, Robert notes that all that would be possible for someone who marries his friend. “It is very important that you marry your friend.

“In the days after a wedding, a newly-wed couple will enjoy the highs of fresh romance. But life soon turns into a boring routine. It is only then that your decision to marry your friend will come in handy!” he says.

Robert, who previously struggled with a strip-club addiction, advises that while you must be open to each other about your past struggles, you should never talk ill about your husband or reveal his dark side to all and sundry.

“Don’t talk ill of or demean your husband in public. You should cover him instead. If you don’t, he is bound to feel belittled, sometimes beyond repair and may very well walk out.”

Les Wanyika Biography and Songs

Les Wanyika was a prominent band with Tanzanian and Kenyan members and was based in Kenya. It was formed in 1978 when guitarist Omar Shabani, bassist Tom Malanga and two other members left Simba Wanyika. They were joined by John Ngereza and Issa Juma. Les Wanyika made many popular recordings, but are best remembered for their 1979 classic Sina Makosa and Paulina. Vocalist Issa Juma left the band soon afterwards to concentrate other musical projects. The group continued until Omar Shabani’s death in 1998. John Ngereza died two years later.

Formation

It was formed by two brothers from the coastal region of Tanga Tanzania, Wilson and George Kinyonga In 1971,a band they would call Simba Wanyika, Swahili for Savannah Lions. Due to unsteady economic conditions in Tanzania in the 70s which strained the music industry, most of the artists of that time migrated to Kenya and other neighbouring countries in search of greener environments.

During that time, travelling between the two countries was made easy by the East African Community, a tripartite agreement of understanding among Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania. After the collapse of the community in 1977, border crossings were made difficult, hence the eventual establishment of permanent base in Kenya by the group. With its development and growth, the band created several offshoots, but most notable was Les Wanyika.

With Les Wanyika, new members of the group included both Tanzanians and Kenyans. The famous John Ngereza, Issa Juma and Omar Shabani were all from Tanzania, and one Tom Malanga was from Kenya. This band established a permanent base in Nairobi, playing in nightclubs and on various resorts. Most of the group members have either died or fallen victims of age toll.

Les Wanyika was formed in November 1978 by Shabani, Malanga, Rashid Juma, Phoney Mkwanyule, Stanely Mtambo and others. It was later joined by John Ngereza from Orch. Bwambe Bwambe, Issa Juma, Joseph Just, Mohammed Tika Abdallah and Victor Boniface.

Issa Juma later left the band and formed Super Wanyika. In 1988 Shabani left the group to join Everest Kings Band led by Abdul Muyonga, but eventually rejoined Les Wanyika.

One of their hits was “Pamela”, which was written by Shabani and dedicated to his wife Pamela Omari. The song was originally recorded by Simba Wanyika and recorded later by Les Wanyika.

In 2006 it was reported that the group would be reformed with a new line-up

Bishop Gilbert Deya Biography

Bishop Gilbert Deya is fugitive wanted by the Kenyan authorities and an evangelist who is living Britain. His organization, Gilbert Deya Ministries, claims that Deya is able to help infertile women to conceive through the power of prayer.

Bishop Gilbert Deya was ordained by the United Evangelical Church of Kenya and styles himself “Archbishop“. He was an evangelist in Kenya in the late 1980s to early 1990s, but moved to the UK, establishing Bishop Gilbert Deya Ministries in 1997. The ministry now has churches in Liverpool, London, Birmingham, Nottingham, Luton, Reading, and Manchester, Sheffield and in 2006 acquired a building and planning permission in Leeds. The church claims to be “the fastest growing Ministry in the UK and worldwide”.

Bishop Gilbert Deya Baby Stealing

Bishop Gilbert Deya Ministries claim that Deya’s powers allow him to be able to cause infertile women to become pregnant. Mr Deya claims that “through the power of prayer and the Lord Jesus” he has helped sterile women give birth. In the UK, one woman is claimed to have had three children in less than a year. The women travelled to Kenya in order to “give birth”.

Bishop Gilbert Deya wife, Eddah (also known as Mary Deya), was arrested during November 2004 in Nairobi and charged with stealing children. Ten children, none of whom had any genetic connection to the Deya family, were found at Mr Deya’s House.

Twenty babies have been placed in foster care in Kenya after DNA tests showed they had no connection to their alleged mothers.Rose Atieno Kiserem, a former pastor with Deya’s ministry was jailed along with Mrs Deya.Upon her release from jail, Kiserem confessed that the ‘miracle babies’ were “a hoax created by the Deyas and their accomplices to deceive me and other God-fearing people.Bishop Gilbert Deya has a warrant out for his arrest in Kenya for the trafficking of babies out of the country.

The Kenyan police have alleged that the ministry is a baby-snatching ring, and they have petitioned for his extradition from the UK. Mr Deya is seeking political asylum from his base in Glasgow. He was arrested by police at Edinburgh Sheriff Court in 2006.

In November 2004 the High Court in the UK ruled that a ‘miracle baby’ in London was the victim of child trafficking, and that the supposed miracle displayed was a ruse in order to generate funds from a “deceived congregation”.

Mr Justice Ryder ruled that in order to maintain the illusion of a genuine birth, the child’s ‘mother’ was seriously assaulted “and a live child who had been born to another family was presented to her as her child.” He also ruled that “[the baby’s] birth as described was a falsehood not a miracle.

On 13 December 2006, Bishop Gilbert Deya was arrested in London by the Metropolitan Police. A police spokesman said Gilbert Deya was detained under an arrest warrant issued by Kenyan authorities, who had charged him with child abduction and trafficking.

He was ordered by a court on 8 November 2007, to be extradited from the UK to Kenya to face five counts of child stealing.Bishop Gilbert Deya appealed against extradition on the grounds that he might face torture in Kenya, but in late 2008 his case was rejected by the High Court and leave to appeal to the House of Lords was refused.

It was reported in April 2010 that Deya was still in England and that David Lammy, Deya’s MP, had enquired of the government why he had not yet been extradited.Lammy was concerned that justice was being denied to several of his constituents who were victims of the trafficked babies fraud.

The Home Office responded that it was still considering representations from Deya’s solicitors that sending him to Kenya would breach his human rights.

In September 2011, news reports indicated that all avenues of appeal had been exhausted and Deya would now be extradited to Kenya. In December 2011, a court in Kenya cleared Mary Deya of obtaining registration for five children irregularly.
